Opening of the exhibition "Informal Beauty" by Vasyl Korchovyi

The special project of Art Ukraine Gallery – “Informal Beauty” presents 20 unique works by the artist
Vasyl Korchovyi is the sculptor of “Confident”, which caused a wave of resonance and even suffered from vandalism because of its installation in Stryi Park in Lviv.

“I’m not trying to prove anything to anyone. I bring beauty and consider it my mission. It is a difficult path to say “beautiful” to something that few people perceive. People often choose easy paths because they don’t know that there are fewer competitors on the hard path. And in my endeavours of “other” beauty, I have none. Lucien Freud is dead, the authors of Scythian women died long ago, the authors of Paleolithic Venus died even longer ago. The only one left is Fernando Botero. But I don’t consider him my competitor,” Vasyl Korchovyi shared his vision.

At the opening of the exhibition, there was an open discussion with the famous Ukrainian psychologist Yegor Topolov: “Intolerance to art outside the established canons of beauty as a litmus test of the level of culture of society or psychological fatigue from the realities?”

“The creative elite should hold more educational dialogues with people. Everyone should not like art, but no work of art deserves to be mocked. It is the ignorance of people that is the main reason why the sculpture “Confident” in Lviv was deliberately damaged,” the psychologist commented.
