Barannik Serhii

Born on 21 October 1952 in Oleksandrivsk-Sakhalinsky, Sakhalin Oblast, USSR.

In 1962, the family moved to Zhdanov, the Ukrainian SSR, where the future artist studied at the local school No. 36.

During 1973-1975, he worked as a designer in the art and production workshops at the Tyazhmash plant.

At the end of 1975, he transferred to the Art and Production Complex of the Art Fund of the Ukrainian SSR in Zhdanov.

In 1976, he began his exhibition activity.

1983 – the first personal exhibition of the artist in Mariupol.

In 1988, he received an invitation to participate in the international creative project “CHORZOW-88” (Poland), thanks to which his works were exhibited in a number of Polish cities, in particular in Krakow. He created an introductory tourist route through the cities of Poland.

In 1987, he joined the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and became one of the founders of the creative group “Mariupol-87”.

In 1990, as a member of a team of local artists, he participated in the painting of the St Nicholas Cathedral in Mariupol.

Since 2003, he has been the chairman of the board of the Mariupol organisation of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

In 2009, he was awarded the title of Honoured Artist of Ukraine.

In 2015, he took part in the group exhibition of abstract painting of the artistic association “HarBarBond” (Volodymyr Kharakoz, Serhii Barannyk and Oleksandr Bondarenko). In the same year, on the initiative of the artists, the first in the history of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine All-Ukrainian exhibition of abstract painting was held in Kyiv in 2015.

Some of the artist’s works are kept in the funds of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Mariupol Museum of Local Lore, in the museum of Poland, Palestine, in private collections of Italy, Canada, Germany, Poland, the USA, Ukraine and France.

Currently, the artist’s works of several series are exhibited at Art Ukraine Gallery.
