Rojtburd Oleksandr

Born in 1961 in Odesa.

In 1983 he graduated from the Faculty of Art and Graphic Arts of the Odesa Pedagogical Institute.

In 1989, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

In 1993, he was one of the founders of the New Art Association in Odesa. From 1993 to 1999, he worked as an art director, and from 1999 to 2001, he was the president of this association.

In 1997-1999 he was the Chairman of the Board of the Soros Center for Contemporary Art, Odesa.

2001-2002 – Regional Coordinator of the Cultural Heroes Festival, Odesa.

Since 2002 – director of the Helman Gallery, Kyiv.

In 2009, his painting “Farewell, Caravaggio!” was sold at the London auction of Phillips de Pury & Co for a record amount of $97 thousand for Ukrainian painting at that time.

In 2018, he became the director of the Odesa Art Museum. In 2019, he was dismissed from his position.

In 2021, he died.

The artist’s works can be found in the MoMA Museum of Modern Art in New York, DUMA (Duke University Museum of Art in Durham, USA), Odesa Art Museum, PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, and private collections. Alexander Roitburd has participated in more than 100 exhibitions and art projects.

Currently, artworks from several series of the artist are exhibited at Art Ukraine Gallery.
